Contested Spaces Panel

A panel of 2 men and 2 women behind a table

You might be seeing a theme here – I am very interested in Curation, particularly within a disability context. I curated the exhibition Contested Spaces was hosted by The Foundry, organised by Disability Arts Online and ran from September 2019 to January 2020. It featured events ranging from exploring issues around curation to poetry evenings. It culminated on 9th January with a final panel discussion and a performance by Malgorzata Dawidek.

With this panel, which i chaired I wanted to explore some possible solutions to curation and opportunities for disabled artists. The panel featured Jennifer Gilbert of the Jennifer Lauren Gallery , Ashok Kumar Mistry – Artist and Writer and Elinor Morgan – Head of Programmes at MIMA. Each panellist opened with a provocation and then we threw open the discussion for questions from the floor.

The event was recorded by Disability Arts Online and made into a podcast which is available to listen to on their website.

The event was also reviewed by artist Sonia Boue on the Disability Arts Online website.
