Before I went to Finland in December I had the pleasure of interviewing Jennifer Gilbert from the Jennifer Lauren Gallery. Jennifer is a freelance gallerist and curator, you can see her work here. We met in Leeds and went to Chapel FM to record a conversation for the Disability Arts Online podcast series.
We had a wide ranging conversation from how she got into curating, the schism between disability, outsider and mainstream art worlds to the lack of critique of disability art in the mainstream art press. Jennifer holds an interesting position in this wider dialogue as she sits within the galley world as a freelancer and is clearly aligned to the outsider arts – these are often contradictory and conflicting positions to be.
