In April 2017 I went on invitation to Jadraas Arts – 2 1/2 hours north of Stockholm. It was the site of a large furniture store and carpentry workshops where they made the furniture they sold by hand. Unfortunately the popularity of stores such as Ikea saw the demise of local hand crafted furniture – the kind every Swede would have in their home. After the proprieters death the store and workshop lay in stasis for many years, gathering dust and rusting the the tools. The site now has a new life as a burgeoning centre for contemporary arts.
I arrived with no work and no idea of what i would do – my practice is after all about responding to site. With only 3 days to make new work for the exhibition opening I had my work cut out.
Here are some of the works i made and showed and some i made and didn’t quite make the cut
